Tata is a household name in India, which inspires highest degrees of confidence and trust among the people here. With their business interests spread over a vast arena, the Tata group has made its mark in almost all the major industries in India. Of these, the automobile industry deserves special mention, as Tata has been a pioneer in this sector. Traditionally, Tata has a strong presence in this segment, especially in the heavy vehicle segment and commercial vehicle segment.
However, recently, Tata Motors have also ventured into the passenger car segment with more interest. As a result, many world-class cars like Indica, Nano, Indigo, Aria and Safari have rolled out of the factories of Tata into the Indian roads. However, Tata has not been able to achieve stupendous success with any of the models like the Maruti cars or Hyundai cars have.
Nevertheless, Tata is aiming to put that all behind. It has recently launched a stylish sub-compact car named Zest, with a view to win over the segment. The sub-four-meter cars carry attractive duty cuts and other benefits, because of which, more and more people are opting for compact sedans instead of big sedans. As the compact sedans offer best of both worlds – it is handy as a hatchback and spacious as a sedan, it is a win-win situation for the buyer and seller alike.
Tata introduced the Zest to tap the growing demand for compact sedans and make its mark in the segment. It was first unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, and sports an entirely new look as compared to the traditional looks of the Tata cars. The Zest features a highly attractive design, which is refreshing to the core. A radical change from the bland, traditional design language of Tata cars, the Zest was immediately noticed.
Under the hood, the Tata Zest features a brand-new, indigenously developed four-cylinder 1193 cc, 1.2 Revotron turbocharged, 89 bhp engine that is coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox. The car is available in both petrol and diesel variants. An automatic trim, powered by diesel is also included in the lineup. Tata Zest offers a fuel economy of 23 kmpl.
Tata Zest is available for an ex-showroom price tag of INR 550000/- and upwards. It is loaded with comfort features like touch screen infotainment system, AC unit with climate control, power windows, electrically adjustable OVRMs, rear parking sensors and the like. The car also offers excellent safety features like ABS with EBD, dual airbags, seatbelt warning, door ajar warning, central locking, and front and rear fog lamps among others.
Tata Zest has taken the rivals like Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, and the Hyundai Xcent head on in the Indian compact sedan segment.
